This is a picture of a couch in the main hallway of ISAT, on the edge of HHS. To get here, you should walk up the big set of ISAT stairs and walk toward HHS, and then look to your right. Students usually use this couch and surrounding area as a study space before or between classes. Many students, though, use this couch, among the other couches in the HHS area, as a place to nap between classes. Campus designers probably intended for the space to be used as a waiting place for students during the school day, but I doubt they intended for students to nap there. This area could be improved for student use by making the couches much more comfortable for napping, by getting better-padded, newly upholstered couches. With respect to environment, this area could be created from more sustainable products by using bamboo frames and upholstery that is biodegradable. This space will shape my memory of my time at JMU by reminding me that there were times I was so exhausted, I was willing to sleep on a couch in front of hundreds of people I did not know. In addition, this place will remind me of a lot of the time I have spent getting to know some lovely people in my major, as we do most of our bonding on those couches. I am going to miss these couches.
I think this photo is cool because I always pass by this couch and never really think about it much. I remember sitting here and waiting for my friends after I would get out of my gen end geography class. I really enjoyed that class and would always go over my notes before we had a test in that class while sitting on this couch. It's strange how i never really thought about the couch until it was captured with photography.
