Kaitlyn Smith's Madison Space for Dr. H.

Godwin Field, located outside of Godwin Hall, is a public space designed for the members of the James Madison University community. The field is used for recreational activities that vary from football, baseball, softball, ultimate Frisbee, laying out, and many others. Other things that have been done on Godwin field include tye-dying, . Various sports teams also use the space to practice. There are lines painted on the field for the use of sports teams or students who use the field to play various sports. The field is very large and can be used by many people at a time. There are usually always people outside enjoying Godwin Field. Another major use of this space is tail gaiting during football season. Parents, alumni, and students of JMU all gather before football games to eat, drink, relax, and enjoy each other’s company.
The field, having many uses, is open to anyone who may want to use it to their advantage, including members of the Harrisonburg community. There are often people walking their dogs, playing with their kids, and enjoying the open space. Since the field is open to members of the JMU and Harrisonburg community, it can be seen as a place to draw people together. It encourages interaction not only between students, but members of the Harrisonburg community as well. Since so many people use this space, it shows that JMU is a tight knit community that is very polite, welcoming, and willing to share its space and the many facilities it has to offer.
