Carrier Library - Taken with iPhone 360 app |
This is my late night parking space and my late night studying space. It is a panoramic view of mainly Carrier Library from the 7th floor of Dukes parking deck on a December evening. Ever since last year, JMU opened the parking deck to students, after having bought the area from the hospital. You can get here simply by walking from PC Dukes and going to the highest point of the closest parking deck. In the center of the photo, you can see Carrier Library. Thousands of students spend countless hours here every week. To the left of Carrier Library you can see PC Dukes. This is a wonderful place a student can go to quickly grab some grub before it closes and before they return to their studying. To the right of Carrier Library you can see Burruss Hall. This hall has a popular lecture room that is used for many GenEds and also contains Biology laboratories.
In contrast with East Campus Library, Carrier Library attracts students that live on-campus particularly because of the central location. The wonderful thing about Carrier Library is that it has a Starbucks. The downside to Carrier Library is that it does not have the 24-hour study lounge that ECL has. Both libraries continue to strive towards providing environmentally sustainable options for students such as recycling bins. I believe the best thing that Carrier Library needs is motion detection lights in the third floor cubbies. Other than that, Carrier is a great place for students.
Carrier Library has changed my life because I have spent many all-nighters here while cramming for Final Exams. I will always be a part of #TeamCarrier.

I think this photo is gorgeous. It captures the beautiful sunset so common at JMU and many of the important areas of campus, including Carrier Library. I also park in the parking garage and it really is beautiful from the top floor. I agree that Carrier does have a very central location and the Starbucks located on the bottom floor is definitely a plus. However, I like that Carrier does not have a 24 hour room because it forces students to leave, which I think is safer then allowing them to stay all night in the library.

I like this photo because it depicts the part of campus where I spend about 90% of my time when at JMU. When I think of JMU, most of the time I think of a picture just like this one because I am always in Carrier studying or walking through that part of campus to get to classes since I live off of South Mason Street. I find myself grabbing Dukes a lot because it’s on the way either walking to or from class so I got to know that parking deck very well since there’s never any parking closer to Dukes.
